Prague, 2nd May 2016 – Developer CTP will begin the fit-out for A123 Systems’ production space in Ostrava for its newly leased facility. A123 will lease over 3,000 sq m in an existing building that they plan to expand into over the next several years. Works will begin in May 2016 to implement designs for the space. Opening of the facility is planned for October 2016. A123 Systems will install an initial capacity of 600,000 automotive lithium-ion batteries.

Following successful cooperation during the market research and tender process, A123 Systems chose Cushman & Wakefield to be their exclusive real estate advisor on the project.

“The team is confident that A123 Systems will continue to grow resulting in additional requirements for production space. CTPark Ostrava was chosen based on its location, labour availability, timing and incentives. After coordinating a tender, we succeeded in highlighting all potential opportunities in order to shortlist two locations and ultimately select one,” says Laurent Jechoux, Senior Consultant at Cushman & Wakefield who took part in the project together with Erik Anderson.

CTP, the developer and landlord on the project, is the leading supplier of industrial space in the Czech Republic and a major contender in Central and Eastern Europe providing over 3.4 million square meters of industrial and office space to date. “CTP is proud to welcome A123 as a new tenant in CTPark Ostrava, a park with high growth potential. We are delighted to partner with A123 who will manufacture top quality and unique batteries for the automotive industry,” says Jaroslav Kaizr, Business Director at CTP.

The coming of A123 Systems to Ostrava is representative of an uptrend for the automotive industry in the Czech Republic as well as the Central and Eastern European region which is expected to continue into the foreseeable future.
